National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program in India started in the year 1963 to identify and recognize students with extremely high intellect and academic talent. Close to 1,50,000 students appear in this scholarship exam every year. The scheme is open to students of Indian nationality. Only students studying in Class X are eligible to appear for the selection process. As it is organized by an official body (NCERT), it is widely regarded by the Government of India as the toughest and most prestigious examination at high school level in the country.
Students who crack NTSE Stage - II exam successfully within top 2000 rank are awarded a scholarship of Rs 1250 per month for Class XI and Class XII and Rs 2,000 per month for under-graduates and post-graduates to help them pursue courses in sciences or social sciences up to doctoral level. At PhD level, students are granted scholarship as per UGC norms. Students are also granted scholarship to pursue professional courses like medicine, engineering, management and law up to Masters-degree level.
Reservation : 15% scholarships for students belonging to the SC catogry, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST catogry and 4% schlarships for Physically Challenged Group of students.
Though, overall, students have to solve 200 questions in three hours.
